hahaha HI @ everyone who sent me requests for this oh my god i am overwhelmed so please bear with me for what is about to be an inarticulate jumble of ranting and crying. what … was that??? honestly? it felt so different to anything dan and phil have uploaded, if not ever, then at least in the last few years. i feel slightly hyperbolic as i type that, but i think i feel comfortable with that stance because it really was so tonally different to their usual. a few people in my inbox (and elsewhere on tumblr) have noted that this video felt a lot more like bloopers than the old pinof bloopers ever did. less like material that didn’t make it into the main video, more like the actual candid fucking around they do in between “scenes” or questions. as a result, to me, this was such an interesting look at the way that they actually interact and .. i’m trying to find words for it other than “soft,” but it is. it’s soft. and gentle. and very flirty??? first of all, their voices. for nearly the whole duration, they (especially dan) were using their softer, more natural voices rather than their “performance” ones. secondly, their little flirty/affectionate comments. dan making fun of phil’s laugh but quickly calling it an “endearing quality” that “we all” (he included himself in that!) like. phil’s thing about getting lost in dan’s dimple. the cute almost subconscious reminiscing on the past ( “eight years later didn’t think we’d still be doing this, eh?”). the adorable scene of dan going in for a “hug” (who hugs w their mouth dan, nice try mate) and chasing phil, phil’s fond “it’s over” as he escapes (trying hard not to overanalyze that, failing miserably). i got strong flashbacks to some of the pranks dan has played on phil before and the aftermath where phil chases dan (like this one, where dan makes phil disgusting tea, phil dribbles on himself, then tries to run after dan). they were also so physical (again, what’s new, tbh), with phil repeatedly pushing or shoving dan to tell him to stop, and dan tickling phil at one point, poking him in the .. somewhere … during the “what? what? you wanna fight” exchange. honestly i feel like a third wheel watching these kind of interactions. which brings me to the larger, more intangible point about these bloopers and about why this month of videos in general has been so incredibly lovely. dan and phil know each other so, so well and they make each other so happy. they’re showing us that more than they have in a long time. i love how the bloopers in particular demonstrate how they know exactly what to do/say to make the other laugh. i think phil in particular was ridiculously funny in this–i loved when he was asking dan such teasing questions about his dimple and when he was winding dan up by drawing on his nose one point at a time (the art style he’s trying to reference is pointillism lmao) and taking like 15 seconds to act like he couldn’t figure out how to fit the pen back in its cap. i loved when dan asks how he feels about stealing cereal and he just says “good.” i mean look how fucking smiley and happy dan was the whole time (not to say that phil wasn’t but i think the balance was more in favor of phil intentionally making dan laugh): 

^literally six seconds in, right after phil says “pinof 8, this time it’s …” which for some reason dan finds so hilarious

^when phil says he feels good about stealing dan’s crunchy nut

they make each other so fucking happy. each video since the halloween baking video has felt like a concerted effort to show us that, to show us how deep their friendship really goes, and how easily, effortlessly they fit together, riff off of each other, and bring each other joy. there were lots of other little moments that were amazing ( “finally i’m the ball of sunshine,” phil getting a lesson on nipples/mammals from dan, “do you trust this man with a dog?”) but if i commented on all of them it’d be a frame by frame analysis of the video. it was jst that good. i’m so happy and so beyond grateful and impressed with what these two have given us this month. it was so much work for them and it’s literally christmas today, and dan still decided to edit these and share such candid and lovely moments with us. dan and phil are just so good and we’re so lucky<3
